Testimony of a colony guard

Since 2018, Proanima has been developing its CSRM (Capture, Sterilization, Release, and Maintenance) program for stray cats belonging to colonies. This program helps control feline overpopulation in our territories served. Since 2018, Proanima has helped more than 325 colony keepers and sterilized more than 2,500 stray cats !
We recently heard from one of our colony keepers who has been caring for stray cats for a few years.
Here is his testimony:
” Good morning,
Our last correspondence was on September 14, 2020 when you kindly offered me food for the community cats that I was feeding. At that time, I had declined your offer since they had disappeared from my yard since the spring (2020) but only to return at the very beginning of the same winter. (2020).
In fact, I had taken care of 2 cats (mother and kitten that I assumed was a female kitten) all summer, fall and winter 2019 until their disappearance in spring 2020. Both, very feral and jet black, occupied together the winter shelter that I had made and that they used all winter, huddled against each other. They only came out in the morning to ask for their food. Then nothing until the beginning of winter 2020.
What a surprise but above all what a joy to see that the 2 (still together) had returned to occupy the shelter but above all that they both had their left ear cut. The mother was probably hit while I was traveling. I never saw her again.
Since that winter, alone, the “kitten” has not wanted to occupy my shelter, she only came to my gallery to be fed. It must be said that following two operations, I had to put the shelter near my back entrance door where there is no traffic. This winter, during the freezing days when the temperature dropped to around -30°, she rushed into my warm basement but remains excessively feral: impossible to touch her or even approach her.
With all my thanks and encouragement in your mission. What would we do without a program like yours. It was high time that St-Jean-sur-Richelieu came to town.
