It seems natural to want to help an injured or sick wild animal, especially when it happens in our urban environments and before our eyes. HOWEVER, it is important to follow a few rules so as not to make the situation worse.
DON’T:
- approach the suffering animal: this only stresses it out more!
- try to feed it: you risk getting bitten and/or catching a disease contagious to humans.
TO DO:
- take information about the location of the animal
- contact Proanima at 450-655-2525 ext. 0. Our team will find a solution and contact the Ministry of Wildlife if necessary.
REMEMBER : At all times, we should NOT feed a wildlife animal because, in this way, it can become dependent on humans, no longer be afraid of them and get too close to our homes. Even if we want to help animals in pain, it is important to apply the right actions to avoid the spread of communicable diseases or any other danger to the public.
To prevent wild animals from roaming around your home, close your trash cans, avoid leaving your pets’ food outside, and close any potential shelters.
